Fitment and choosing parts

Choosing coilovers for your Falcon, EA to FGX: what to compare

The eight questions worth asking any coilover supplier before you buy for a BA, BF, FG, FGX, AU or EA–EL Falcon, with our answers next to each one.

FalcX coilover full set for an FG–FGX Ford Falcon: front pair and rear pair

The right coilovers for a Falcon are the ones that fit your exact series and body style, replace the rear the way you expect, adjust the way you want, and come with spares and support you can reach. Price comes after those. That holds whether you drive an EA–EL, an AU, a BA–BF or an FG–FGX. Below are the eight questions worth asking any supplier, ours included, with our answers next to each one, including where we don't publish a figure yet.

1. Does it fit my series and body style?

Fitment goes by series and body style, not just "Falcon". In each range the front is the same on the sedan, ute and wagon. The rear is where they differ: every Falcon ute and wagon has leaf springs at the back, so it takes a front pair only.

FalcX coilovers by Falcon series and body style
Falcon Sedan Ute and wagon
EA, EB, ED, EF, EL (and XH) EA–AU front pair. No FalcX rear kit. EA–AU front pair
AU EA–AU front pair. AU sedan rear coilovers are in development. EA–AU front pair
BA, BF BA–BF coilovers: full set, front pair or rear pair BA–BF front pair
FG, FGX FG–FGX coilovers: full set, front pair or rear pair FG–FGX front pair (ute)

XR6, XR6 Turbo, XR8 and FPV models are built on the same BA–BF or FG–FGX Falcon with the same suspension mounting, so they take the coilovers for their series and body style. The full list, with years, is in our Falcon fitment guide. Non-factory or already-modified suspension? Text us first.

2. What happens at the rear?

The factory rear on BA to FGX sedans uses a separate shock and coil spring. Ask whether a kit keeps that layout or replaces it. The FalcX rear is a true coilover: the factory rear spring comes out and stays out, and one BA–FGX rear coilover fits BA, BF, FG and FGX sedans. It's sold on its own too, if you already have fronts or want to do the back first. The current V2 rear has a shorter shock body than V1, so sedans can sit lower.

AU sedans came with either independent rear suspension or a solid rear axle, which take different rear coilovers. Ours are in development. There's no FalcX rear kit for EA to EL.

3. What can I adjust, and how?

Ask whether both ride height and damping are adjustable, and how each is done. FalcX coilovers are height adjustable with adjuster rings on the threaded body, and the damping is adjustable from daily comfort to firmer track use. If a supplier quotes a number of damping settings or a drop range, ask how it was measured. We don't publish those figures yet; text us and we'll tell you what we know for your car.

4. Which spring rates, and can I change later?

Ask what front spring rates are offered and whether springs are sold on their own. FalcX front coilovers come in Standard, 18 kg or 22 kg. Standard is the factory front rate, 12 kg, and it suits street driving. 18 kg is stiffer for track days, drifting and harder driving, and 22 kg is the stiffest, for track use or very low static cars. The rear spring stays 10 kg and is not changeable. Replacement front springs are sold as a front pair only, so changing the front rate later doesn't mean a new kit. Our spring rate guide goes through the choice.

5. Is it a bolt-on job?

Ask whether anything needs cutting or modifying. FalcX coilovers are a direct bolt-on: each one goes in where the factory shock was, with no cutting or modifying. You'll want a jack and stands, a torque wrench with the factory workshop manual for the figures, and C-spanners to suit the adjuster rings. The install and setup page has the full tool list and every step. Whoever fits them, budget for a wheel alignment afterwards.

6. What's in the box?

Ask for a list, not a photo. Our listings describe each kit as ready to install: the full set is the front and rear pairs, the front pair is two front coilovers, and the rear pair is two rear coilovers. Check the parts against your order before you start. Want to know exactly what comes with your kit before you order? Text us.

7. Who supports it, and where do spares come from?

Ask who you deal with if something isn't right, and whether spares are sold separately. FalcX supports its coilovers from Nerang on the Gold Coast, and replacement front springs are listed under springs and spares. Need something else for your kit? Text us and we'll tell you what we can supply. Something not right? Text 0449 887 291 and we'll sort it out.

8. What does it cost for my car?

FalcX coilover prices, 6 October 2026 (the product page shows the current price)
Kit Standard front springs 18 kg or 22 kg front springs
BA–BF or FG–FGX full set $799 $880
BA–BF or FG–FGX front pair $400 $480
BA–FGX rear pair $400 No rate option at the rear
EA–AU front pair $400 $480

When you compare prices, compare like with like: the same parts (front, rear or both), the same adjustment, and spares you can actually get.

Common questions

Are cheaper coilovers OK for a daily-driven Falcon?

Judge any kit on the eight questions above rather than the price alone. A kit that fits your body style, adjusts the way you need and has spares you can get is worth more than a cheaper one that doesn't.

Do XR6, XR6 Turbo, XR8 and FPV Falcons take the same coilovers?

Yes. They're built on the same BA–BF or FG–FGX Falcon with the same suspension mounting, so they take the coilovers for their series and body style.

Can I start with the front pair and add the rear later?

Yes, on BA to FGX sedans. The front pair and the BA–FGX rear pair are sold separately.

Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting coilovers?

Yes. Changing ride height changes camber and toe. See wheel alignment after lowering a Falcon.

Coilovers or lowering springs?

Springs give a fixed drop on your existing shocks; coilovers let you set and change the height and damping. Our coilovers vs lowering springs guide compares the two.
