Which front spring rate for your Falcon coilovers: Standard, 18 kg or 22 kg?

Standard, 18 kg or 22 kg? What each front spring option on FalcX coilovers is for, what we do and don't publish about them, and how to change rate later.

FalcX front coilover pair for a Ford Falcon

FalcX front coilovers come with a choice of three front spring rates: Standard, 18 kg and 22 kg. Standard is the factory front rate, 12 kg. It suits street driving, and it's the one to pick if you're not sure. 18 kg is stiffer, for track days, drifting and harder driving. 22 kg is the stiffest, for track use or very low static cars that need extra front-end support. The choice is the same on every FalcX front pair, EA to FGX, and it's front only. The front spring is changeable, so you can fit a different rate later with a pair of replacement front springs. The rear spring stays 10 kg. It is not changeable, and we don't sell a rear spring pair.

The three options at a glance

FalcX front spring options and who each suits (from the product listings)
Option Suits On a daily-driven car
Standard Factory front rate, 12 kg. Street driving: a daily driver, a weekend car, a ute that gets used as a ute The usual choice. If in doubt, Standard.
18 kg Track days, drifting and harder driving Stiffer than Standard
22 kg Track use, or very low static cars that need extra front-end support The stiffest option; it will feel firm on a daily

The price is on the product page for your series: BA–BF, FG–FGX or EA–AU.

What does the number mean?

Spring rate is how much force it takes to compress the spring a set distance. A higher number means a stiffer spring: less body roll and a firmer ride. How the car feels also depends on the damping, the ride height and the tyres, so the spring is one part of the setup, not all of it.

What is Standard in kg?

Standard is the factory front rate, 12 kg. Replacement front springs are sold as a pair in 12, 18 and 22 kg, and the 12 kg pair is the same rate as Standard. We sell front pairs only, because the front spring is the one you can change.

Which rate should I choose?

  • Mostly normal roads: Standard.
  • Regular track days or drifting: 18 kg.
  • Track use, or a very low static car that needs more front support: 22 kg.

Whichever rate you pick, you set the ride height with the adjuster rings, and you set the damping separately. Re-check the height after any spring change.

Can I change the rate later?

Yes. Replacement front springs for FalcX coilovers are sold as a pair in 12, 18 and 22 kg, so changing rate doesn't mean a new kit. They're listed with our other springs and spares. Coil springs store a lot of energy, so have a spring change done with the right equipment.

What about the rear spring rate?

The rear spring stays 10 kg. It is not changeable, so the rear coilovers don't have a rate option and we don't sell a rear spring pair. The rate choice, and the replacement springs, are front only.
